These branded glass mullers have been manufactured offshore for Skill-Based Art: A Learning Resource for Art Students & Artist-Teachers (SBA)™.
Our handmade glass mullers are composed from borosilicate glass, a glass composition made from a mix of boron trioxide and silica. The benefits of borosilicate glass are its thermal resistance properties making it stronger and less susceptible to fracturing under extreme temperature shifts than other forms of glass.
The rounded, short handle featured on the muller is 35 mm wide, offering a comfortable grip for the painter to repeatedly mull their pigments using either a figure eight or circular motion. Each muller features a base with an 80 mm diameter. The face of the base is flat and pre-etched to a fine finish which enables pigments to be ground finely the more they are worked. The height of each muller is 65 mm and the total weight is approximately 260 grams* making for a lightweight and ergonomic design. Due to their size, our glass mullers are suitable for grinding small to mid-sized batches of paint on a glass, granite or marble grinding slab. As borosilicate glass is chemical resistant, solvents or water can be used to rinse pigments off the muller after use. Each muller is finished with our logo which is printed onto a transparent vinyl sticker that is waterproof and scratchproof.
Whether mulling pigment for oil or tempera painting, the durability of our glass mullers will ensure they last the duration of the painter’s life, unless they are dropped, which will cause breakage. Manufactured in China, our glass mullers come ready to be used for mulling paint and are one of the most affordable options available on the Australian market.
By purchasing a glass muller, you will be helping to support the expansion of Skill-Based Art: A Learning Resource for Art Students & Artist-Teachers (SBA)™.
