This section of Skill-Based Art: A Learning Resource for Art Students & Artist-Teachers (SBA)™ is concentrated on demonstrations which are provided by representational artists whose training has been attained through various lineages of the realist tradition. The purpose of the recordings is to preserve each artist’s working methods for future generations of art students, artist-teachers and art historians, as well as to promote connoisseurship and educate the public about the craftsmanship that goes into creating masterful drawings, paintings and sculptures.
Both Australian and international artists are featured and provide comprehensive instructions through their demonstrations on the materials, techniques and processes that they have used to create the featured artwork. An intimate look into each aspect of their process is provided and the recordings are presented in real time to give viewers a true sense of the fortitude that is required to reach the desired fidelity to nature in the artists’ work. Each demonstration is focused on a specific medium which covers drawing in pencil, to oil and watercolour, as well as fresco painting. The artworks created in each demonstration are based on the four traditional genres of western European painting which include; portraiture, the figure, still life and landscape.
