Demonstration with Warren Crossett
In this video, Australian realist painter, Warren Crossett demonstrates painting the still life study from life, using oil paint. Warren presents his direct painting method in detail which focuses specifically on establishing an underpainting sketch in colour, rather than using a monotone palette to create the tonal scheme. Working on a hardboard panel that is prepared with an acrylic coloured ground, Warren shows how he ‘rubs in’ the subject using a brush and diluted oil paint, without any underdrawing in pencil. Additionally, Warren discusses his reasoning behind using a full palette, colour mixing, oil paint mediums and brush selection, as he renders the still life underpainting sketch into resolution.
